Book: The 40:40 Principle
Now in paperback: Available on Amazon.com, Kindle and BN.com
What is it about reaching the age of 40 that elicits such emotion in us? Eighteen is the first age milestone that ushers us into adulthood— followed by 21, when we’re “legal.” Then comes 30, which signifies an increasing level of responsibility. But 40 … this age causes us to stop and reflect on our lives like never before. Maybe it’s because 40 truly is the mid-point of life for most of us—a halftime, so to speak.
If you’re over 40 you may remember when it seemed like 40 was so old. Meanwhile, if you’re closer to 20, then 40 does seem old to you! Many young people think there’s little they can learn from those old timers on the north side of 40, while those in the 40+ club often doubt any- one under 40 could teach them anything they don’t already know.
My life experiences have taught me that both of these viewpoints are way off the mark. This insight was introduced to me very early in life through my grandfather, Claude Carr, whose words of wisdom I have adapted into what I call The 40:40 Principle. It simply states that those under 40 should seek to gain wisdom from those over 40, and those over 40 should do the same with those under 40. The result is a seeker and an advisor—one seeking wisdom from an expert in some particular area, and the other providing such wisdom, insight or life experience. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, most people allow preconceived notions to keep them from tapping into what 40:40 has to offer.
Many of the profitable decisions I’ve made have been a direct result of the strategic advisors I have intentionally placed around me. In contrast, most of the poor and costly decisions I’ve made seem to be in direct proportion to not having strategic advisors around me. I’m not alone in this, by the way. Thousands of successful people boldly attribute much of their success to having other wise people around to advise them—some older, some younger.
Wisdom travels both ways, my grandfather used to say— it’s not a one-way street. To maximize our chances for personal and professional success, we need to pursue relationships with people of all ages to stay motivated and relevant. The purpose of this book is to debunk popular misconceptions and explain how to build strategic relationships with “wisdom people” on both sides of 40. In the process, I believe this will open the door to levels of success in all areas of life you may have never dreamed possible. Tap into those both over and under age 40 in order to reach your full potential.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is great blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
